Use a real world application of biology concepts to assess students' understanding of biochemical evidence of evolution and common ancestry while introducing them to potential careers.

Students will learn about COVID variants and breakthrough infections, activate their prior learning about evolution, and rely on analytical skills to make a predication about what characteristics would make a variant most likely to cause a breakthrough infection.

Students are required to analyze data and then synthesize their understanding into a written report.  Encourage students to explore the embedded leads to learn more about the fields of public health and epidemiology.

This resource is located in a google slides and can be assigned to students as a printable or virtual assignment.
